Welcome 2010, here we go again, another new year. This one started very slowly
photographically for me, due to two virus attacking my computer. I came to realise
just how much I use and depend on my computer, and am very happy this morning
to be back working on it.
I have a lot of fun holiday images to post, and new year shoots to process, so for
now I just wanted to do a short post to say I am here, and will be getting the site
updated over the next week.
Above is one of my favorite cards I did this year. It was for a lovely family who to
me are a true family. There care so much about each other, their friends and the
world as a whole. Amy, the mother one of the most thoughtful parent I have ever
had the joy of talking with, so it was an honor to be such a big part of their
holiday celebration.
She came to me with the idea or recreating the poster for 'It's a Wonderful Life', so
I took the photo of her and Brendan, and then went to work digitally and put this
all together. She gave me some photos from the past year of their two kids, and
after hours of working in photoshop this was the final image. The original was a
painting, so it was a fun challenge to work on the coloring and create the ribbons
etc.
Next is my own card. The story behind it is,
one day my daughter Siofra sat into her toy box, and I thought she looked just like
one of the dolls, so I thought that is what she should be on the card. My son Taron
had written his letter to Santa asking for a light saber, so I thought he should be
Luke Skywalker, and so this card came to be, my two children playing the parts of
the holiday gifts in their boxes.
To add the extra touch, I put my son letter to Santa on the inside, and on the back
I use the image of my daughter I had done a little earlier playing the part of the
Elves busy making the gifts. It took some people a while before they noticed all the
elves were the same person. I had many people ask how did I get so many toddlers
to do as I needed at one time, well I didn't!
Another that I just loved this year is the Two Little Red Riding Hoods, the print
version of this is so beautiful. The two girls in red pop right out of the muted
background in a magical fairy tale kinda way.
The girls grandmother had made them these capes for halloween, when I saw them I
just knew we had to do a shoot with them, so I thought of replacing the baskets
with gift boxes.
This is the 3rd year in a row creating a conceptual card for this family, and the
best part of it is, the parents give me artistic freedom to do as I feel, and each year
they have gotten such a unique and visually powerful card. The mother did help
with the text, linking the fairy tale with the holiday season and their family.
Again this was a 3 image card, front, inside and back.

Sometimes I do a shoot and an images jumps out at me, and I think oh they are going
to be so excited about that one, and the family doesn't even order a print of it. Other
times there will be an image that I'm not sure I should even keep, and that is the image
they order a bunch of. This being the case, I usually do not edit my gallery down to 30
or even 50 images, I let people flip through the different expression and poses.
In the card below, I took the flower print from the dress pattern the girls were wearing,
and I thought, this is different, classy and simple. But I also gave them a couple of
other options for their card, and they went with a different option, so one never knows...
but the red dots was also nice and playful for these two fun girls.
And some more cards from this year below,
the design of the first obviously came from the leaf the baby is holding.
Above is the front, inside and back of the card, below is another option the client was shown
with another cute photo of these kids. This was my third year photographing for their card
also.
