Starting a family gave me a whole new perspective on life and thus my photography. With the birth of my first
child in 2004 family photography became more and more prevalent in my work. I am now a seasoned expert with
family photography especially working with children.
You will get personal service from me and your session will be tailored to your specific needs and wants, boutique
style.
The Session:
A full portrait session usually lasts between a ½ hour and 1 ½ hours. When newborns and
children are involved we will of course consider feedings, naps, and personalities.
I always like to spend time, especially with children, at the beginning of a session getting to know each other.
I can come to your home, we can meet on location, or you can come to my home studio.
There are many factors that come into choosing where and when is the best place to photograph including:
1) Time of year (if outdoors)
2) Time of the day (light, naps)
3) How many children and their ages
4) Weather (if outdoors)
5) Personalities of children (sometimes I may recommend studio over home or vice versa)
6) Where and how the images will be used
A photo shoot should be a fun experience and I am here to ensure that it is.

Clothing:
The more comfortable and relaxed you are the better the photos will be. First and foremost please dress comfortably.
Logos, text, caricatures, etc. will detract from the face.
If you are doing a group photo the same tonal range (light, medium, dark) is best.
For individual children patterns often work well. Color is good! Texture is great!
Bring 2 looks for a full session.
Newborns are best in very simple minimal clothing.
Always consult with me ahead of time to ensure the best image.
Props:
Occasionally I use props in concept work or simple items to enhance a portrait…maybe some fabric
wrapped around a pregnant form, a handmade blanket under a newborn, a toy for a young child to
interact with, etc. If you have a meaningful prop or item you’d like to use please discuss it with me so that I am
prepared .
The Image:
I typically shoot digitally and provide the images in B&W and/or color. Some images present better in black and white while
others color.
Within a week of the shoot I provide an online proof gallery.
