Village board trustee Tucker, Ott & Salzman. It's almost local election time and last weekend I work with Village Trustees Andrea Ott, Adam Salzman, and Bob Tucker on their campaign photos for the Village Board of Oak Park. Here are a few of the photos.

Autumn, that is.
Fall is always my busy season and 2014 was only more so than the year before, and the year before that. Good busy, I got to work with a lot of new people and some great return clients and families. But where do I start with what to post here, hundreds of thousands of photos. Yes thousands of photos. 2908 usable frames in one week, that's a lot of photos. So I'm going to start with some close to home, yip in my bathroom. Even if this was more winter than fall.
My daughter gave me a little direction in this shoot, she was playing art director and one photo was not enough. We had to do a few where she told me where to go and which ones I should 'post'. So here is just a couple from the series.
And writing of days at home, what about those few terribly cold days, winter not fall I know, anyone else snuggle down with some hot chocolate?
Yip that is some pretty rich choco but not all the days are too cold, there are plenty of days cold enough to keep the ice frozen but not too cold to be out, and on those days we skate.
And as a parent don't I have to post a photo of my kids playing in his school 'holiday sing'. He got to play this African drum for a few song and a xylophone for one also, then he sang in the choir for a few also. And why don't I just keep going with the personal shots, Christmas Eve before they open their first gift.
I got a gift of some lovely handmade soaps so before we started using them I thought I should take a few snaps and send them to the friend who made the soaps. Of course my daughter Siofra was happy to help.

Oh and since she is so prominent in this post why not show another of her, this was just a snap from a camera I'm selling. Anyone want to purchase a Canon 7d?
So where was I, oh yes, how do I decide what to show from the thousands of client photos from autumn 2014. Let me start pulling some of those together. There were a lot of families, you know, I just need one good shot of everyone looking at the camera at the same time! and those we did, a lot of. But there were also moments in between, moments I love, photos I love event more than the one of them all looking at the camera at once. Like these, where I was just explaining to the kids what I was about to do, showing them the lights etc... 'if you look in here you might see your reflection' bam that was a good shot, and then of course little sister want to see.

Family Mini Sessions Dates

I know I know! finally I am posting the date for family mini sessions.
Oct 26th and Nov 8th for outdoor fall colors or your home. It's a little different each year but usually close to the end of Oct is the best time for autumn colors.
Mini sessions are $125 and last about 20 minutes, works well if you are looking for a couple of nice images for your holiday cards.
These dates are also available for full sessions. There are also a few more dates during autumn color season with full session availability, email me your preferred dates and times and we can set something up.
Nov 16th for indoor studio style.

It's all headshots, conferences and events the last few weeks. This quick session yesterday for 30 new and returning Women's Guild members was simple and pleasant. I am available to come to your professional meeting. Thirty ladies is less than thirty minutes, I won't take up too much of your time. Group rates available.
Along with individual headshots for the directory we did a quick board member shot as all the members mingle prior to the first meeting of the year.

The client came to me asking for professional but approachable headshots. They have an office at the 1871 work space and we used this setting as the background for the images. A new website was in the works so we took the color pallet from that design and did two options.
They went with the blue option and they can now be seen here

Ms. Joanna If you live in the south west end of Oak Park you have most likely seen Ms. Joanna and her beautiful clothes. She was one of the inspirations for my Oak Parker project and it's taken this long for me to get connected with her and take a photo. Head to toe in color coordinated clothing she volunteers every Wednesday at The Animal Care League Shop.
Emery Lehman Olympian speed skater at home in Oak Park
Emery seems like an obvious choice when working on a project that involves people who are dedicated to what they do. Olympian Speed Skater and about to be OPRF high school graduate. He placed 16th in the 5,000 meters and 10th in the 10,000 as the youngest speed skater from any country at this years winter Olympics. Finding something he is passionate about and working really hard at it while also finding the time to volunteer at The Food Pantry and encouraging other kids in the community to follow their passion.
Spring with all it's rain has brought a lot of rescheduling of outdoor portrait sessions, but we have gotten a few in and lots more in the coming weeks. Here are a few from a senior portrait session after school last week.
I could post about 10 more I love from this session. Teens are just great to work with.

Willie Mae - long time volunteer at the food pantry

Richard (Dick) Alton - Green community connections and a lifetime of community and international activism
So many stories, I really have a difficult time briefly writing something about these people because what they do is not brief, it is usually a lifetime of being part of something bigger than themselves. They are really committed their community.
I don't think one can live in Oak Park and not have heard of The Food Pantry. It's pretty obvious from the title what they do, but this morning I got to see first hand part of it in action, and once that truck pulls up outside it is action packed. Faces focus in on the task at hand and no one is standing around. I know some of the 1,500 volunteers that help there but I asked one of the staff for a recommendation on who they thought would represent the volunteers well. Maybe someone who has volunteered for a long time and does so on a regular basis, that is how I met Willie Mae.
This morning she was there to help unload the truck and pack the fridge. Here are some photos of her in action. It's pretty amazing that the food pantry fed 15,873 local families comprised of 44,466 individuals in 2012 from this one room in the basement of a church.

Haj started Magic Minds Studio when she realized there was no place in the area for young kids to explore and create all art has to offer. The studio is designed for children to come and express themselves, grow their spirits, work on skills that will help them in future educational settings and have fun!
It's not surprising that Haj spent a big chunk of her childhood in the west bank where everyone was part of the family. In the rural villages when it was time to eat dinner you ate at the house you were closest to, everyone watched out for one another. Starting her own family it was important to find a home with a strong community and there weren't many choices for her past Oak park.
Willie Mae spent a few years living in the Haight area of San Francisco back in the day, while Dick went to school at Berkeley during Berkeley 'active' years, not really shocking that they continue to be invested in a better world. I stopped by Dicks home early one morning. He had already been to an Oak Park community foundation meeting and was off to his next meeting as I left. I've known him to see for a couple of years through Green Community Connection events. He and his partner Sally name's have come up more than once when talking to people about this photo project. I'm not going to try to summarize all their work, I will just say they are a huge inspiration to many people here in our village.
